Esurance Insurance Services overview
About Esurance Insurance Services
Esurance Insurance Services, Inc. is an American insurance company that sells car, home, motorcycle, and renters insurance direct to consumers online and by phone. It was founded in 1999 during the first Internet boom with the goal of using the Internet to remove in-person meetings with agents from the insurance selling process.
Esurance narrowly survived the Internet bust in 2000, being acquired by White Mountain Insurance Group, and changed hands yet again when it was bought by Allstate in 2011. The company operates independently as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Allstate, even competing with its parent in several insurance types, including car insurance. In the car insurance space, Esurance’s primary competitors are other direct-selling insurance companies, primarily GEICO and Progressive.
Allstate is a large publicly traded insurance company ranked 79 th in the Fortune 500 list of the largest United States corporations by total revenue, with over $40 billion.
