The Allstate Corporation is an American insurance company with headquarters in Northfield Township, Illinois. Allstate was founded in 1931 as part of Sears, Roebuck and Co. and was spun off in 1993. The company also has insurance operations in Canada. Allstate’s primary insurance lines are auto, home, and life.
Allstate is a large publicly traded corporation, ranked 79th in the Fortune 500 list of the largest United States corporations by total revenue, with over $40 billion. The company sells its products through a large network of both captive (i.e., exclusive) agents, who are only authorized to sell Allstate products, as well as independent agents who can sell products from many companies.
Allstate owns a number of other brands, including the Esurance brand of car and homeowners insurance, which sells only directly online or by phone.
