Area of coverage
Allianz Care offers 3 areas of coverage: worldwide, worldwide excluding the United States, or Africa only.
COVID-19 coverage
Allianz Care says the following with regards to COVID-10 coverage: “All customers who have symptoms of fever and cough, and have consulted a doctor who prescribed a test, are fully covered for reasonable and customary costs for tests and treatments for COVID-19 infection and any resulting complications, within the limits of your policy. The invoice for the test should be accompanied by the medical prescription confirming suspicion of COVID-19 infection.” In other words, Allianz Care covers COVID-19, but what’s covered, how much you have to pay out of pocket, etc. depend on the plan you have. For example, if you’re admitted to a hospital due to COVID-19, your annual benefit limit and deductible still apply.
Plan coverage
Below are some of the benefits that Allianz Care’s plans cover. The core plans do not cover Maternity care and outpatient (outside of hospital) treatments, such as routine physicals, doctor visits for a cold, vaccinations, immunizations, cancer screenings, pap smears, blood tests at a doctor’s office, and prescriptions. To get these coverages, you can get add-on plans. Note: the maternity add-on plans have a 16-month waiting period. Getting treatment and the claims process
One of the most frustrating aspects of health insurance is the claims and billing process. While living abroad, the health care system can be even more unfamiliar. Thus, using a provider that offers seamless and simple processes can really make a difference in how much time, and potentially money, you save.
Getting treatment
Prior to receiving treatment, you should review your benefits information to determine if pre-authorization is needed for your treatment and to ensure that the hospital or medical provider can invoice and settle bills directly with Allianz Care. Taking these steps will help you avoid the hassle of having to submit claims. You can locate hospitals and medical providers within Allianz Care’s network and access the pre-authorization form by logging into your online account or using its mobile app.
Making claims
If you have to pay for treatment directly, to get reimbursed for covered costs, you’ll need to submit a claim. Allianz Care offers several ways to submit a claim:
- Allianz Care’s MyHealth mobile app
- Allianz Care’s online account
- Fax
Allianz Care aims to reimburse claims within 48 hours—the shortest time we’ve seen—of receiving all required paperwork. According to Allianz Care, 90% of fully completed claims are processed within 48 hours. Note: depending on your bank’s international transaction timelines, it can take more time for the payment to reach your bank account.
If you mail in your documents, then the reimbursement will take longer.
Customer support
Navigating medical care abroad, especially if you don’t know the local language, can be challenging. Thus, the type of customer support that an insurance provider offers can help you navigate the local health systems with your international health insurance.
Online & mobile app support
Allianz Care customers have access to Allianz Care’s online account, MyHealth Online Services and MyHealth mobile app. Through the online account and mobile app, you can access policy documents, see your coverage information, submit claims, make payments, get information on how to access hospitals, clinics, and doctors, and access tools and services to help you manage your health and wellness.
FAQs
Allianz offers an easy-to-use FAQs area that addresses common questions.
You can also reach Allianz Care’s customer support by emailing its support team.
Phone support
Allianz care also offers several helpline numbers that you can call at any time, 24/7, to reach customer support. There is a dedicated number for each of the following languages:
- English

- Spanish
- Italian
- Portguese
Cancellations
You may cancel your plan within 30 days of the start date of your policy. If you cancel within this 30-day period, you’ll get a full refund.
If you don’t cancel within the 30-day period, your insurance contract becomes binding and your full premium for the insurance year will be due according to the payment frequency you select. In other words, after the 30-day period, you cannot cancel your plan before your plan term is done. If this is a concern, there are other providers that offer more flexible cancellation policies.
